Heeeeeeeeeere's Johnny!!

This your old favourite Mr. K. telling you that I am still alive and kicking, even though I am awfully busy right now preparing all the lessons at my new school. If time allows it, I will check back on our page every now and then, but I hope you will understand, that my visits won't be as frequent as they used to be.

Anyways, take care and remember that this is your last year. MAKE IT COUNT!

See you around.

By the bye: T.J. and Doyle say "Hi!"

Test

Our final big test will be in about a week. Of course you already know what you have to learn, but I will give you the list once again, like I promised.

1) Vocabulary:

"power" (page 127) to "failure" (page 133); you should also have a look at the opposites, synonyms and definitions

2) Grammar:

The Passive (pages 106-108) and don't forget to have a look at the worksheets I gave you.

+ the blue boxes on page 43

3) Have a look at the assignments you have written so far and at the corrections we have done.

Finally, if there are any questions on our test, you can post them here and I will try to answer them.

Enjoy the rest of our "autumn" holidays and don't worry: Next week when we return to school the weather will be terrific!

12 Assignment: My Idol

Write an e-mail to the one person you admire most. It can be a real person or a character from a movie, a book, a video game or a comic. This means that Mr Andyerson could write to his Rorschach, for example. (or I could write to Batman who would totally kick Rorschach's skinny butt).

Anyways, you can ask him/ her questions or tell him about yourself and why you admire him/ her.

Write about 150 - 200 words.

Solution to exercise 2 on page 38

It orbited the earth and then the moon.

A lunar module with two astronauts was brought down safely onto the moon, and they got out and walked around.

Some experiments were set up and a US flag was put in the ground.

The astronauts took lots of photos.

All this could be seen live on TV and was watched by perhaps 600 million people.

It is remembered today as a great moment of history.

Only twelve years before then, the Americans were given a shock when the Soviet Union became the first country to launch a satellite into space.

The next day, 21 July, the astronauts left the moon in the lunar module and returned to the spacecraft.

Three days later Apollo XI was pulled out of the Pacific Ocean near Hawaii.

Since then many more spaceships have been launched, and more astronauts have walked on the moon, but the excitement of that first landing has never been repeated.

Perhaps more attention will be given to the space adventure in the future, when astronauts land on Mars.

11th Assignment: 5 years time

One common question in job interviews is "Where do you see yourself in five years?" Today I would like to pass this question on to you. Think about the things you will have achieved by the year 2015. Will you be successful in your job? Will you be married? (ugh!) Will you have attained world domination? (that is not likely if you are married by the way...)

Write about 150 to 200 words.

10th Assignment: Big Plans

Today our local newspaper published a weather forecast for this summer, stating that the months of May through September will have mostly fine weather and extremely hot temperatures which can be as high as 37 degrees centigrade.

For this week's task I want you to write down your plans for this summer. You can write about your future (summer) holidays or about your summer hobbies. Also remember that there will be the Football World Cup in South Africa this summer.

(I have been told that some people are actually interested in that kind of stuff. Amazing!)

As usual, write around 200 words.

9th Assignment: A day in the life

Now for something more playful. Choose a day from your life and write a report on it. It can be a day from these Easter holidays or it can be a day from your childhood. Just write about what happened on this day and (if you like) how you felt about it. It could have been the greatest day in your life or the worst or anything in-between.

(200- 250 words)
